Tools & Resources I’m Excited to Use in 2019

Happy New Year! I am such a fan of January 1st, and 2nd, and pretty much the entirety of this month. Even though it is technically just another day, I absolutely love the fresh start that it brings. I love to set goals and accomplish them, working toward a vision I have. In doing so, I have compiled a handful of helpful tools I am already using to make the most of the year ahead. I hope they inspire you to take action on something great this year in your own life, too!

Tessa Neusdadt for Studio McGee

2019 Val Marie Prayer Journal for cultivating prayer in my life. Earlier this week, I shared that this is the most significant gift I received this year because it will help to transform my heart and mind through intentional, consistent prayer. Dillon purchased the yearly journal for me and I love it! I’ve used the six-month journals since 2014, which is an excellent option if you are looking to utilize a prompted prayer journal on a budget! I also am loving these prayers for marriage from Val’s sister, Natalie.

Todoist to track daily to-dos and recurring tasks. It’s amazing how much brain space we use by thinking of tasks we need to complete, over and over again. I have freed up so much space in my mind by getting to-dos out of my head and into another place for safekeeping. Just last night, I thought of a couple tasks to complete while I was brushing my teeth and simply walked over to my phone, typed them into the app, and voila! A calm and quieted mind. I usually keep a tab open to Todoist on my computer throughout the day for easy adding, but also have it synched to my phone and our Echo, too. The basic version is free, and you can also try 2 months of Premium free here!

She Reads Truth for daily Bible reading. I completed this chronological plan last year, which helped me build the habit of consistently being in the Word each day. My heart is to carry this consistency into 2019 by proactively choosing what to read in the Bible each month. One simple way I am kicking this off in January is by reading through Luke with She Reads Truth. I signed up for their daily emails here to make sure each day’s reading is top of mind.

A Pretty Wall Calendar to mark celebrations, milestones, holidays, and scheduled commitments for our family of two. I picked up this one over the weekend and am especially excited to enjoy the beautiful artwork each month.

Wunderlist for tracking our shopping lists on-the-go. I have always been a pen and paper girl, and still am, but that’s not always practical unless I keep a master notebook on me at all times. With Wunderlist, Dillon and I can both add to our shopping lists anytime, anywhere. We currently have lists for weekly groceries, and less-frequented stores: Target, Trader Joes, and Aldi.

PowerSheets Goal Planner for goal setting. I have been using PowerSheets for the past five years! I continue to invest in these each year because I absolutely love the heart behind them and how simple they are to use. Unlike traditional goal setting, they equip you to set meaningful goals from the heart by walking through in-depth prep work to uncover what matters most to you. I appreciate that they not only help me focus on my priorities, they also keep me accountable day-to-day and are incredible to look back upon at the end of the year to see my progress and highlights of each month.

What is one tool or resource you are excited to use this year? I’m always looking for new ideas!

We also use a basic wall calendar, I picked up a new one for 2019 at Target. Having a simple hanging calendar in our kitchen area where we constantly see it has helped us so much! I’d love to try out a bible reading plan reading the Bible chronologically. Way to go for completing that this past year! What an awesome accomplishment that can sometimes be challenging!

Thank you, Hannah! Reading the Bible chronologically took a bit of momentum-building at the beginning of the year, but then became a daily habit that I looked forward to. I’d love to try reading the OT on its own one year, and the NT in another year to have more time to really soak up the words 🙂

I love Wunderlist (I use it for to-dos), but for groceries, I’d highly recommend AnyList. It can synch across users like wunderlist, and you can do different lists for different stores, but it has a bunch of additional lovely features specific to groceries. My favorites: it automatically categories everything (categories like produce, beverages, snacks, etc), you can change quantities, and you can add notes to each item.

I’m a new reader to your blog and am loving it! Also a Powersheets fan. And now I’m going to go look at She reads Truth!
