I'm delighted that you're here! My heart behind this blog is to invite you into my daily life, the things I am most excited about, the lessons I am learning, and the beautiful things I am capturing. I invite you to pour yourself a warm cup of coffee or sweet tea and stay awhile! I hope this space is an encouragement and inspiration to you!
In the past, I’ve skipped the goal setting step of choosing a word for the year ahead because it felt trivial to me, like something that was cute to post on Instagram but lacked the heart and meaning to be carried past the newness of the year. But this year is different!
In the week before Christmas, I was sitting in a hospital waiting room of all places, waiting to visit a dear loved one, and my word came clearly into my mind. I immediately knew there was something more to this word than the fleeting desire to share it with others because the circumstances of that particular moment were far-flung from such a lighthearted word. I had been sitting in that waiting room for quite some time, surrounded by people who were anxiously waiting for their loved ones, too. It was getting late and people were eager to receive updates and be reunited with their people. If any word was going to suit the atmosphere of that room, it might have been disheartened. Yet God breathed encouragement into my heart right then and there with my word: celebrate.
Twinkle lights, a great playlist, a calendar dotted with fun things to do and people to see, holidays, ordinary days, and everything in between. I absolutely love to celebrate everything, big and small, and all the novelty that comes with it. As I sat there, I experienced such joy as I thought about how truly fitting this word is for where my heart is right now. Last year, I launched a wedding planning business, full of celebrations. One of my favorite sources of inspiration in 2018 was this book, all about celebrations. I have previously carried confetti in my purse to bless friends who need a little encouragement in their day. The word, ‘celebrate’, is written on my heart.
So this year, I’m claiming that word as my own. I’m excited to see how God uses it in my days. I’ve already begun living it out with two small action steps that have already made a difference in my year:
I’m looking forward to living out the word, ‘celebrate’, this year and for the way my life will be filled with more joy, love, and encouragement as a result!
