Rachel and Burke’s wedding day at Scituate Harbor Yacht Club is one I’ll never forget. The setting, the stunning details, the personal touches – and the New England weather – made it truly stand out. They invited their loved ones to Rachel’s hometown, choosing to celebrate the start of their marriage in a place that has been part of her family’s story for decades.
Choosing Joy
There’s something you should know about these two. They chose joy in every part of their day, despite the rain. They were marrying each other, surrounded by their loved ones. It was time to savor all the planning and preparation, and they did just that. It’s rare that I mention weather in a wedding blog post, but it’s worth noting here because of how Rachel and Burke reacted to it. Rather than dwell on it or shy away from it, they smiled through it. They were adventurous, willing to run through the rain (sheltered by golf umbrellas, thanks to Jyl and her incredible team!) for portraits. And in the moments it mattered most, they trusted us and let us lead, allowing us to make magic happen.
They already had an ease and joy about them that was so refreshing, but one moment in particular solidified it for me. We didn’t expect the rain to break, but shortly before dinner was plated, it did. I signaled to Burke and he dropped what he was doing, looked at Rachel, and said “The window of opportunity is here!” We were outside within a minute, seizing the opportunity to capture these two on the docks of the yacht club where Rachel grew up. It was perfect, and so incredibly appreciated.
A Recipe for Success
Beyond the spirit of joy that was woven through their day, their details are some of my favorite that I’ve ever captured. Rachel and her sweet mama put countless hours of work into the design of this day, and it showed. At every turn, there were personal touches, family heirlooms, and custom details that told Rachel and Burke’s story. From Lexi’s stunning illustrations throughout their stationery and signage to the hydrangeas handpicked from her parents’ yard for the flat lays, everything felt so them.
Their intentional planning extended beyond the aesthetics to their vendor team. Hot Mess had the dance floor packed the entire night, Jyl anticipated every possible need, Maureen from SHYC was there to tend to the logistics of the property in the midst of the rain, and the gents from Merriment Films were a dream to work with. It was such a good day and we’re so thankful!
To Rachel & Burke:
It was an honor to serve you two. Your day was nothing short of incredible, largely because you kept the first things first. You celebrated your love, savored the sweet moments, and surrounded yourselves with people who love you so very much. Despite the weather and the logistical changes, your day was one of the most joyful and stunning weddings we’ve ever photographed. It was a joy to be there to capture it all and to watch you two become husband and wife. We’re cheering you on SO big as you start married life together and enjoy all the adventures to come! 🙂
